About this ride
**2026 RMCC Santa Monica Mountains Spring Training Camp**
**What to expect**: Kick off your 2026 spring season with a week of *challenging* riding in the Santa Monica Mountains on the west side of Los Angeles. Participants can expect scenic hillsides, sunny beaches, smooth roads, fancy cars, and *challenging* climbs.
**Dates:** Fly to Los Angeles on Saturday, 3/21. Riding camp 3/22 - 3/28. Fly home Sunday, 3/29. Join me for all of the days or some of the days!
**Travel:** Plan to fly into either Burbank or LAX. It's a 35+ mile drive to Calabasas/Thousand Oaks from either airport. Burbank is a bit more convenient as the rental car facility is on the airport campus.
**Motel**: Good Nite Inn, Calabasas-Malibu. This motel is bare bones but is inexpensive (for the area), clean, and next to a grocery store. There are other inexpensive motels in Thousand Oaks and there are many *fancier* hotels in the area if you want a more posh vacation experience. There are also many AirBnb and VRBO options in the area.
**Weather:** Temperatures are generally pleasant, ranging from the upper 60s and 70s, this time of year. However, it is early spring and this area can still experience significant rain events in March. The last time we attempted a camp in the Santa Monicas, we had to cancel the trip due to a multi-day atmospheric river event that brought many days of heavy rain and flooding to the area. Because of this concern, *please make sure that your flights and lodging are cancelable and fully refundable* if we need to cancel the trip due to an unexpected multi-day rain event.
**Itinerary/routes:** Here are prospective routes for this trip. I've put together many more routes than we can possibly ride in 6 days, but it's nice to have options. I've also put together some routes in Ventura and Santa Barbara as well. Participants can also free lance and do their own rides.
